Competition Overview

The NSW Inter-Zone Sides Championship – Juniors is the pinnacle event for an individuals representing their Zone Sides.

Players have qualified for this competition through selection at Zone level.  The tournament matches Zone Sides in pools of four for Sectional Play before the top team progresses from each section to play in the Semi Finals, with the winners moving into the final.  It is Representative Bowls in NSW at its elite for juniors.  Players represent their Zone in a side of 7 players at this event.

The competition plays off in Singles, Pairs and Fours.

Competition Details

Laws & Conditions of Play

Controlling Body
The State Match Committee shall be the Controlling Body for Bowls NSW Inter-Zone Sides Championships – Juniors

Duration of Matches
Singles: 21 shots up
Pairs: 18 ends (3 bowls per player)
Fours: 15 ends

Trial Ends
One (1) trial end is permitted at the commencement of each match.

Determination of Best Performed Side
Points shall be awarded based on performance in each discipline. The Side scoring the greatest number of Side Points shall be declared the best performed side.

Determination of Section Winners (COP 4.22)
In each match of sectional play 2 points shall be awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.

The highest placed player/team in each section shall play off for Gold, Silver & Bronze Medals
2nd in each section shall play-off for 5th-8th place
3rd in each section shall play-off for 9th-12th place
4th in each section shall play-off for 13th-16th place

Post Sectional Play
In each discipline play-off the draw shall be:

  • Semi-Final A – Section 1 v Section 2
  • Semi-Final B – Section 3 v Section 4
  • Final – Winner Semi-Final A v Winner Semi-Final B
  • Play-Off – Loser Semi-Final A v Loser Semi-Final B
Re-spotting the Jack
If a jack in motion passes completely outside the boundaries of the rink of play or rebounds to a distance of less than 18 metres from the mat line, the end should not be declared dead. Instead, the jack should be placed with the nearest point of the jack to the mat line at a spot on the rink which is two metres from the front ditch and on the centre line, and play should continue.

If the spot mentioned in paragraph one is partly or completely covered by a bowl, the jack should be placed as close as possible to the covered spot, in line with that spot and the corresponding spot at the opposite end of the rink, without touching a bowl.

Restricting Movement of Players
After delivering their first bowl, players will only be allowed to walk up to the head:

  • Singles: After delivery of their third bowl
  • Pairs: After delivery of their third bowl, Skips after delivery of
    their second bowl.
  • Fours: Leads, second and thirds after delivery of their second bowl. Skips after delivery of their first bowl.
  • In exceptional and limited circumstances, a singles player may ask to visit the head or a skip may ask that a player visit the head early than described in this Condition of Play.

Variations to Conditions of Play (COP 1.6)
The Controlling Body shall have the authority to vary the Conditions of Play to bring the Championship to a successful conclusion.
