Competition Overview

The NSW Club Challenge is an Inter-Club Competition where sides are made up of a singles player, a pairs team and triples team. There are three Men’s Division, 2 Women’s Divisions and 2 Mixed Divisions catering for all skill levels.

Competition begins at a local level with a round-robin competition on Saturday 9 November. Sections in the Round-Robin will have four sides (where possible) with each side playing a match against the other sides in their sections (three rounds to be played).

The best performed sides will go on to play off to reach the State Finals Series, which will be held at Warilla Bowls & Recreation Club and surrounding venues.

All Clubs are encouraged to check the entry list to ensure that their entries have been correctly received and are included in the list.

Competition Details

Laws & Conditions of Play

All matches are played in line with the Laws of the Sport of Bowls, Crystal Mark 3.1 Edition (2019) the 2019 Club Challenge Conditions of Play and with the 2019 Bowls NSW Conditions of Play.
Copies of the Laws of the Sport of Bowls are available from State and Territory Associations and from Bowls Australia e-store.
The RNSWBA Conditions of Play are available free of charge as a download from the RNSWBA web-site, or hard copies are available for sale from the RNSWBA Offices.
The Controlling Body for the event is the State Match Committee.

General Conditions of Play (Summary)
    • Men – Gold (No player grading restriction)
    • Men – Silver (Players Graded 3 & below)
    • Men – Blue (Players Graded 5 & below)
    • Women Gold- (No player grading restriction)
    • Women Pink- (Players Graded 3 & below)
    • Mixed -Gold (No player grading restriction)
    • Mixed – Bronze (Players Graded# 3 & below)

    Mixed divisions shall comprise 3 female / 3 male players.

    Each gender must be represented in pairs and triples (If the singles player is male the triples must contain 2 female players. If the singles player is female, the triple must contain 2 male players.)

Composition of Side

Each side shall comprise of six players.
Three games shall be played within each match:
One Singles game, One Pairs Game and one Triples Game.
Players shall be eligible to play as per Condition 4 of the Club Challenge Conditions of Play.

Duration of Matches

Singles – 21 shots up (4 bowls per player)
Pairs – 14 ends (3 bowls per player)
Triples – 14 ends (2 bowls per player)

Practice

No practice permitted before commencement of matches

Trial Ends

There shall be ONE trial end before the commencement of the first match of the day.

Re-spotting the jack

If a jack in motion passes completely outside the boundaries of the rink of play, comes to rest in any hollow in the face of the bank or rebounds to a distance of less than 18 metres from the mat line, the end must not be declared dead. Instead the jack must be placed with the nearest point of the jack to the mat line at a Spot which is 2m from ditch and on the centre line. (ie, at the 2 metre mark T).
