NSW 5 A SIDE 2020

Competition Overview

The NSW 5 a side has launched for 2020 and is heavily supported by Warilla Bowling Club.  The competition is a side event with clubs nominating 5 players to compete in singles, pairs, triples and fours.

With $30,000 prize money on offer, a spectacular competition is assured.

Competition Details

Laws & Conditions of Play

1. Laws & Conditions of Play
All matches shall be played in line with the Laws
of the Sport of Bowls.

2. Eligibility of Clubs
Clubs Affiliated with Bowls NSW are eligible to
nominate.
The State Match Committee may also allow
other sides upon request.

3. Composition of Sides
Each Side shall comprise 5 players.
A minimum of Four (4) players must have their
declared and nominated club as the entrant club
(Nominated Club as per BA Affiliation and
eligibility to play policy).
Each may contain one (1) marquee player. A
marquee player is one who has another club as
their nominated and declared club.
Players from clubs competing the in the 5-a-side
are ineligible to play as marquee players with
another club.
Clubs shall nominate the players to compete in
each discipline.
Players must compete in the same discipline
throughout the event*.
(*The Controlling Body may authorise the use of
a reserve player and discipline changes where a
player must withdraw due to injury, illness or
exceptional circumstances, The Controlling Body
reserves the right to determine players status as
Marquee or otherwise).

4. Composite Sides
The Controlling Body may approve a composite
side to play between more than one NSW
affiliated club.
Clubs participating in Grade 1 State Pennants
are ineligible to enter a composite side.
Composite sides must be approved by the
Controlling Body.
The application for Composite side shall detail:
* Side name (Club)
* Responsibility for payment of fees
* Uniform to be worn
* Allocation of prizemoney (if any)
* Players to make up the side and their
declared club.

5. Re-spotting the jack
Singles only: If a jack is made dead (as per Laws
19 and 56.5), play in that end shall continue with
jack to be re-spotted at the 2m mark.
Pairs, Triples, Fours: Dead ends shall be
replayed (NO re-spot).

6. Duration of Matches & Number of Bowls Used
Singles: 21 shots up, 4 bowls/player (No time
limit)
Pairs: 15 ends, 3 bowls/player (1h 45 min time
limit)
Triples: 15 ends, 2 bowls/player (1h 45 min time
limit)
Fours: 15 ends, 2 bowls/player (2-hour time limit)

7. Trial Ends
No Trial ends will be played.

8. Determining Results
In each game:
3 points shall be awarded for a win
1 point shall be awarded for a draw
0 points shall be awarded for a loss

9. Ranking of Clubs
Clubs shall be ranked by Number of points scored, if equal then by Nett shots (total shots scored – total shots conceded) if equal then by
Total shots conceded.

10. Semi Finals & Final
The top four ranked clubs shall play semi-finals;
Highest ranked side v 4th ranked side
2nd ranked side v 3rd ranked side
Semi Final winners shall play the final
The side to have won the greater number of
disciplines shall be declared the winner.
