11/02/2021Michelle TaylorCompetitions

The opening day of play has seen two rounds of play completed, the third round of sectional play to be played today (Thu 11 Feb).

Gary Kelly (Warilla) leads section 1 with 2 victories. Kelly can seal the section with a good performance against Jason Aurisch (Tuncurry Beach). Aurisch has 1 win and faces the tough task of keeping Kelly to 10 shots or less to leapfrog the Irish International. Simon Mitchell (Club Maitland City) also has 1 victory. Mitchell needs Aurish to beat Kelly and for himself to have a very strong victory over Justin Knight (Wee Waa) for a chance to progress to the semi-finals.

Jay Breust (Club Malua) tops the Section 2 ladder after 2 hard fought wins. Breust can seal the section with a victory over Matt Slager (NBC Sports) in Round 3. Nathan Wise (Mt Lewis) and Chayne Edwards (Terrigal) have 1 win each and their hopes rest on Slager notching his first victory in the competition over Breust.

David Ferguson (Engadine) sits at the top of Section 3 after victories over 2019 Champion of Champions Singles Runner Up Peter Taylor (Alstonville) and Kiwi International Blake Signal (Nelson Bay). Ferguson will seal the section with a third round victory over Paul Faorlin (Blacktown Workers). Faorlin needs a win by at least 1 shot to move ahead of Ferguson. While Taylor needs to beat Signal and for Faorlin to beat Ferguson if he is to progress.

Peter Taylor (Westport) is the only undefeated player in Section 4. Taylor will square off against Lee Stinson (Orange Ex-Services Country Club) in Round 3. Stinson will move ahead of Taylor with a win, while a win for Taylor will seal his passage to the semi-finals. John Campton (Asquith) has 1 win and faces winless  Ricky Potter (Temora) in the last sectional game. Campton needs Stinson to beat Taylor and to record a sold victory if he is to progress.

Round 3 gets under way at 9.30AM, watch all the action on our live stream via Facebook.
