Bowls NSW (BNSW) has held an information session with all Zones Executive & Match Committees detailing plans for the remainder of 2020 season.Prior to this session, zones were asked to provide feedback on several issues, including recommendation on events to be played. After careful consideration of all the feedback, BNSW announces the following:
(Please note dates and criteria are subject to change pending information from government and health departments).
Our Clubs have borne the brunt of the financial impact of the COVID-19 shutdowns and more than ever, need their members to support them. With ever changing restrictions and conditions imposed upon how they can operate, all decisions, have been made with consideration to their situation and this has been agreed by all zones. A separate circular will be released regarding affiliation fees for 2020/2021 year.
As clubs start to get back operating, they will need to re-assess their layouts and put in place protocols to abide by the new regulations and this will take time. Furthermore, clubs will need to re-engage their memberships and ascertain which of those members are willing to come back and start participating in events at all levels.
A decision has been made that No Zone or State events will be allocated to re-start until, at least, 1st August. This will enable clubs to commence, when allowed, with starting back social bowls days and club competitions, without the added pressure of having to host events and/or send players to other clubs to participate in events. Along with this, is the requirement of everyone to abide by the social distancing and gathering laws, in place.
2020 SEASON EVENTS:
As previously advised, the following events have already been cancelled for 2020:
City v Country Series; ALL Interstate Test Series in all divisions; State Junior Championships; DP Junior Carnival; NSW 5 a Side; Australian Indoor Qualifying.
The following events have been cancelled for 2020 season:
State Quadrangular Series; State Rookies; State O40s Pairs; Club Challenge & State U25 Singles.
2020 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS:
The NSW State Championships have been scheduled to be played from 9 – 18 October.
They will be played across all divisions (Open, Senior & Reserve) and in all disciplines.
Zones will have from 1 August to 21 September to complete their Championships.
It is recommended that Zones extend any entries for championships, not drawn, to ensure members can enter or withdraw, depending on their circumstances. It is also, advised, that for those Zones who still must complete championships already underway, to plan to hold these prior to beginning any others.
The schedule for the State Championships, will be advised later, once restrictions for sporting events become clearer and in consultation with host club, Ettalong.
2020 STATE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
The NSW State Champion of Champions are still scheduled to be played from 23 – 28 November.
Clubs will be required to complete their Major Singles & Pairs competitions by 28 September.
Zones will be required to complete Champion of Champions events by 9 November.
The schedule for State Champion of Champions at South Tamworth is the same as advertised on our website.
After consideration of all Zones feedback and with majority of Zones concerns, the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 State Pennant Finals and State Grade 1 Pennant competition.
Zones will need to make decisions, after consultation with clubs, to ascertain if they can continue to play Pennants up to Zone level for Grades 2 – 7.
Any Zone competition will not have any bearing on a club or individuals grading for 2021 season.
All grades allocated to clubs for 2020 season will be carried over to 2021 season, along with individual gradings, including any regrades approved for 2020 season.
The Zone Pennant Competition will NOT have any precedence over the following events: Club Major Singles & Pairs; Zone & State Championships; Zone & State Champion of Champions.
Zones are encouraged to liaise with all clubs to ensure that any allocation of Pennants matches does not conflict with dates set for Club Major Singles & Pairs.
Clubs will need to contact Zones, if they believe they will not be able to field any of their sides if the decision is made to resume local Zone Pennant competition.
State Pennant Finals host clubs will be contacted by David Ellis, to discuss arrangements for 2021 finals.
2020 JUNIOR 7 a SIDE
The only remaining junior event left to be played in 2020 is now scheduled to go ahead and be played over the October Long Weekend (2 – 4 October).
It has been moved to this weekend, after the calendar had been freed of The Nationals and to be in school holidays as well as been on the long weekend to lessen any impact for parents in taking time off work.
Zones are required to have their nomination of intention to participate and sides registration sent by 14 September.
Please note that a relaxation of COP has been allowed for this event to include any junior who is aged 18 or under as at 31 December 2020.
Whilst licensed premises have new, relaxed restrictions, in effect from 1 June, the current restrictions for sport, is that, a maximum of 10 persons can be gathered for training purposes only.
An exemption for lawn bowls was obtained from NSW Health and granted on 20 May to allow the maximum of 10 persons be applied per green. (as notified in Circular 11/2020).
As such, no organised matches can be conducted – only practice/roll up and with procedures in place as per the Public Health Order exemption.
BNSW continues to lobby government, for an easing of restrictions, to allow more persons per green and for organised matches to recommence.
As soon as any announcements are made by NSW government, BNSW will advise.
