Emmett McLeod of NBC Sports has claimed the 2019 NSW Under 25 Singles Championship with a hard-fought final victory over Toby Peters (Dapto Citizens) in the final played at Wenty Leagues (14 December).
McLeod and Peters had a great battle in the final, the pair trading shots and searching to gain the upper hand.
With the scores evenly balanced, Peters appeared to have gained the advantage with a perfectly directed running shot propelling the jack toward the ditch, and a near certain count of 3. The jack however bounced back up the green and rebounded off Peters bowl to give McLeod a 2.
McLeod then backed up that result with his own running shot result, moving him into a match winning advantage.
McLeod won though his section with wins over Reece Oliver (Halekulani) and Britt Camp (Armidale Ex-Services) before a semi-final with Callum Murray (Engadine). Murray fought back from a deficit to level the scores at 20 each before McLeod secured the section with a 21-20 win.
Peters also faced a tough semi-final match after both he and fellow NSW Under 18 representative Michael Phillips (Merrylands) recorded wins over Joel Nouws (Bateau Bay) and Thomas Rich (Mudgee).
Peters was in magnificent touch in that third-round match, eclipsing Phillips 21-6 to progress through to the final.
