The Nelson Bay Marlins duo of Chris Edmonds & Shannon Gittoes are the inaugural NSW Over 40s State Pairs Champions, winning a gripping final at Club Maitland City.
The Marlins pair had a great battle in the final with Jeremy Roach and Michael Clarke (Merrylands). The scores were tight until the penultimate end when a count of 4 gave Edmonds & Gittoes a decisive advantage. A single to Nelson bay on the final end saw the score finish at 18-12.
In the semi-finals, Nelson Bay accounted for 2016 NSW Champion of Champions Pairs Winners Daniel Mathieson and Michael Cronin (East Cessnock) while Merrylands ousted Parkes pair Thomas Furey & Gary Carberry.
The finals day began with the quarter finals, when Nelson Bay beat Simon Byrnes & Martin Byrnes (Mudgee), Merrylands accounted for Daniel Hooker & Paul Cousins (Club Maitland City), Parkes defeated Wayne Beard & Dave Neilsen (Bateau Bay) and East Cessnock won over 2019 NSW State Pairs Champions Aaron Appleby & Nathan Dawson (Kurri Kurri)
Over 200 pairs from right across NSW entered the 2019 NSW State Over 40’s Pairs.
The State Finals series will return to Club Maitland City in 2020 and 2021.
