The 2019 NSW Champion of Club Champions Singles will come to a climax with Alstonville’s Peter Taylor looking to claim both Champion of Champions titles at South Tamworth Bowling Club tomorrow (Friday 17 October).
Peter Taylor is in line for an historic double, looking to become the first player in living memory (if ever) to have won the Champion of Club Champions Singles and Pairs in the same year. The last player to have featured in both finals was playing for this year’s host club (South Tamworth). Chris Herden was victorious in the pairs and was runner up in the singles.
Taylor will face Warilla’s Corey Wedlock in the final.
Wedlock won his way through to the final with a hard fought win over David Govan (Valentine). Wedlock set the early pace in the semi-final before Govan fought back to near level terms. Wedlock gained the upper in the closing stages to claim a 31-20 victory.
Taylor claimed his berth in the final with an epic semi-final win over Mathew Pietersen (St Johns Park). Taylor held a slight advantage in the early stages before Pietersen fought back to near level terms. Taylor then went into overdrive, playing superb bowls in trying windy conditions to power home to record a 31-20 victory.
The NSW State Champion will go on to play in the Australian Champion of Champions. The previous NSW Champion, Ray Pearse was victorious in the 2019 National event and will represent Australia at the World Champion of Champions in 2020.
The final will get under way with the call of cards at 8.30AM on Friday (17 October) play due to commence at 9.00AM.
