Matthew Baus of Raymond Terrace is the 2019 NSW State Singles Champion after a dominant performance in the final at Ettalong Bowling Club.
Baus played fantastic bowls and never let David Ferguson (Engadine) settle into a rhythm, dominating the scoring to run away with the final 31-10.
Baus becomes the first player to have won the trio of NSW State Junior Singles, NSW Champion of Club Champions Singles and NSW State Singles Championship.
The Runner-Up badge was Ferguson’s second in three years and the third in a row for Engadine after Ferguson was a finalist in 2017 and Mason Lewis was Runner-up in 2018.
The NSW State Senior Singles trophy went to another Newcastle District player after Jack Littlewood got the better of John Roberts from host club Ettalong. Littlewood started strongly before Roberts ignited the hopes of the home fans with a spirited fightback. Littlewood recovered however and powered home to record a 31-18 victory.
Matt Hooker (Austral) got off to a slow start in the final of the State President’s Reserve Singles, trailing Geoff Grover (Tigers Five Dock) 0-10. Hooker clawed back to even terms at 19-19 only to see Grover again go ahead 25-19. Hooker then went into overdrive, dominating the closing ends to take the championship with a 31-26 victory.
