The Soldiers Point Classic (Jim Richardson Shield) was played over the weekend.
This was the second year the event has been held with sides competing in a round-robin format for the Jim Richardson Shield.
The sides comprised the State Senior Side, State Over 40s Side, State Reserve Side and the Emerging Jackaroos Side.
Played in warm sunny conditions and on magnificent free running greens, we saw a high standard of bowls and very competitive games across the two days.
In the end it came down to the final game between the State Reserve Side and the Emerging Jackaroos to fight it out for the event honours. The Emerging Jackaroos ultimately won the game by a few shots and thus took out the overall event.
The game results were as follows:
Reserve Side def Senior Side
Emerging Jackaroos def Over 40s
Emerging Side def Senior Side
Reserve Side def Over 40s
Over 40s def Senior Side
Emerging Jackaroos def Reserve Side
Emerging Jackaroos side
Bowls NSW would like to acknowledge Soldiers Point Bowling Club for its magnificent hosting of this event and Bowls Australia for allowing a side of Emerging Jackeroos to take part.
With the change to the National Calendar and program, from 2020, this classic will include The KENO NSW Blues, who will replace the Emerging Jackeroos side.
This will make the event an important one as players have one final chance to impress selectors prior to announcement of sides for upcoming test series and The Australian Sides Championships.
