The NSW v Queensland Under 18 Test series at Cabramatta Bowling Club, the home of the NSW Junior Blues, is poised for a blockbuster finish with both the Boys and Girls Series up for grabs in the final Test.
Queensland capitalised on their great start in the First Test after winning all rubbers yesterday, they sealed victory in this morning’s (8 July) second session by winning the Girls Singles and Girls Fours and Boys Singles. The Blues gained confidence from a win in the Boys Fours.
The NSW Girls Side came out firing in the first session of the Second Test, claiming a solid win in the Pairs and a dominant performance in the Triples.
The Girls then sealed a Second Test victory in the second session with a smashing victory in the Fours. Caysee Wilson prevented a Blues clean swipe with a solid win the singles.
The opening rubbers of the Second Test saw the QLD boys put a dominant performance in the Pairs, while the Triples scored an important, hard fought victory to keep the Test on an even footing.
Toby Peters started strongly for the Blues in the Singles clash, before Jake Rynne surged ahead and looked to be leading a QLD victory charge. Peters however dug deep to claim a 21-20 win to keep the Blues in the series.
The Blues hopes of claiming a Second Test victory were thwarted when QLD claimed the Boys Fours. The Maroons edged ahead in the back half of the game before the Blues fought back in the closing stages, but the Blues needed a count of 5 on the final end, the Maroons limiting their chances to run out winners and square the Test.
The Girls Series sits at 1 Test apiece, and the Blues will be pushing for a Third Test victory to claim a Series victory.
Queensland holds the advantage in the Boys Series with 1 Test win and 1 Test Draw. The Blues can win the Series but will need to not only win the Test but also record strong wins. If the Blues can win the Test, the series will be decided by total shots scored across the series, The Maroons hold a 20 shot advantage (137-117) in those stakes.
Action continues at Cabramatta Bowling Club (the home of the NSW Junior Blues) from 8.30AM Tuesday (9 July).
