Queensland has claimed the honours in the opening rubbers of the NSW v Queensland Under 18 Interstate Test Series being played at Cabramatta Bowling Club, the home of the NSW Junior Blues.
The Under 18 Test series are played between sides of 5 players. Each Test is divided into two sessions, the sides playing pairs and triples in one session and singles and fours in the other.
Today’s (7 July) play saw Queensland scoop the pool, winning the pairs and triples rubbers in both the boys and girls series.
The Blues will need victories in both the singles and fours tomorrow (8 July) morning to square the First Test.
The Blues fought bravely in the opening matches, however Queensland had all the answers and claimed the spoils with brilliant bowls. In the boys pairs, Queensland edged ahead in the middle stages and maintained the pressure to win 16-11, while the triples saw the Queenslanders hold off a hard finishing Blues to prevail 16-10.
In the Girls matches, QLD gained the early ascendancy and held on for a 21-16 win in the triples. The Blues fought hard to lead the pairs 13-12 going into the final end, but a brilliant last end saw the Maroons claim a double to win 14-13.
