Sydney South West (Zone 12) Inter-Zone Champions for the third time in as many years.
Zone 12 have made it a hat trick of Inter-Zone Sides Championships, after claiming the title for a third consecutive year in Wagga Wagga this morning. The Sydney South West (Zone 12) side, full of both Australian and NSW representative players, took the title following a 77-43 win over a brave Illawarra (Zone 16) side.
It looked to be a close battle after the opening, with a solid start by Illawarra. Aaron Teys (Illawarra) and his rink jumped out to a quick lead against Carl Healy’s rink from Zone 12. But the Jackeroo couldn’t maintain the great start, with Zone 12 keeping Tey’s rink scoreless for most of back half of the match. Healy and his team took home the rink victory, 29-14.
In what looked to be a mouth-watering matchup between Jackaroos Jesse Noronha (Zone 16) and Ray Pearse (Zone 12), turned into the “Ray Pearse Show” in the later ends of the match. Pearse could do no wrong and was helped by team mates Josh Berry, Beau Prideaux and Ben Twist to a 26-15 victory.
Ex Central Coaster, Michael Stead (Zone 16), was left with the task of skipping against Aaron Wilson’s (Zone 12) rink. They produced a fine effort to stick with Wilson for most of the match. Aaron and his crew just got the better of their Zone 16 opposition and finished with a 22-14 rink win.

So as the dust settles on another successful Inter-Zone Sides Championship, the question must be, who are going to knock off champions Zone 12 in 2019? The tournament heads to Sydney Central and South (Zone 13) next year for what will be another exciting Championship.
