Ryan Klem and Mathew Swan (Cabramatta, Sydney South West Zone 12) are the 2018 NSW State Junior Pairs Champions after winning a gripping final over Luka Houze and Jack McShane (The Hills & Denistone Sports, Sydney North West Zone 10) at Warilla Bowls & Recreation Club.
Houze and McShane took the early advantage in the final, jumping out to an 11-3 lead before a massive fightback had the scores level at 11-11 with 2 ends left to play.
Houze and McShane again took the lead with a single on the penultimate end and looked to have all the running holding a multiple count on the final end. Swan, with the third last bowl of the end played a running shot and cannoned the jack into the ditch, following through and removing his opponents’ back bowl and sitting next to the jack in the ditch.
McShane played to draw to the ditch, and in a rare mistake for him on finals day drew into the ditch leaving the Cabramatta pair holding two shots to claim the Championship.
In earlier Semi-Final action, Houze & McShane emerged from a gripping match with a single shot victory over Zac Nicholls & Connor Freeman (Raymond Terrace, Newacstle Zone 2) while Klem & Swan capitalised on a dynamic start to eliminate Nicholas Tiyce and Stuart Megee (Tomakin, South Eastern NSW Zone 7).
